Beqa is an island in Fiji and home to eight species of sharks. Scuba divers visit this particular dive site to mostly see Bull Sharks. Other sharks divers might see are Tawny Nurse Sharks, Sicklefin Lemon Sharks, Silvertip Sharks, Grey Reef Sharks, Blacktip Reef Sharks, Whitetips Reef Sharks and Tiger Sharks.
To consistently attract sharks, dive operators bait the waters with Tuna heads. Tiger and Bull Sharks take the prime bits of bait. And after the feeding, scraps are left to the Nurse Sharks while larger Bull Shark circled above.
I was in a feeding frenzy with about 16 black tips in Roatan. WOW! what a sight to see. They knocked out their teeth in the act. I actually got one of the shark’s tooth.
I’ve been to Roatan a few times. However, I never made it to the shark dive there. I’ve heard the dive is pretty cool.
One of the best things about those shark dives is looking for teeth at the end. Not all places let you do it. I have a nice collection of teeth. LOL!
You would like the shark dive in Roatan. The dive master is the one who actually gave me the tooth. 🙂
