Aeolid Nudibranch in Color

Aeolid nudibranchs are some of the most striking sea slugs found on Indo‑Pacific reefs, including the vibrant waters along Fiji’s north coast. Known for their bright coloration and the rows of cerata that line their back, these nudibranchs have a fascinating survival strategy: they feed on hydroids and anemones, then store the prey’s stinging cells in their cerata for protection. This process, called kleptocnidae, makes them one of the most unique predators on the reef. Despite their delicate appearance, aeolids play an important ecological role as specialized feeders, and their presence often indicates a healthy, biodiverse coral environment.

I recently presented a black-and-white image of an Aeolid Nudibranch. Here’s another perspective in color. I love its natural purple color.

I prefer the color image. That shade of purple on a living creature is always fantastic.

They are incredibly interesting tiny animals. I love when I spot them on dives.

Thanks! I was leaning to the b&w image and I see most people like the color version.

Most definitely the brilliantly colored one. Such a thing most people will never see with their own eyes. Lovely!! 😊

They blend into the reefs so well – sometimes I dive right over them.
When I do find them, I’m always excited!

It was hard for me to decide. I appreciate your feedback.

Definitely like the color version best! I like b&w on high contrast images with lots of shading, but this is such a rich mix of purples and violets it would be a shame not to see them!

Nudibranch’s are such great subjects and there are so many different profiles to capture. This was definitely a hard decision to make because I like both the color and b&w perspectives. I’m glad you like the color version!

Normally b&w because is calm and holds some mystery, but it seems that nowadays I feel attracted by the playfulness and the extravagance of colour

I’m still conflicted about which I like the most. However, I can’t deny that the purple pops.
