Chalinids are filter feeders that process suspended particles and dissolved organics. Some Indo-Pacific Chalinula—notably C. nematifera—can overgrow living corals and are monitored as potential coral-killing/encrusting competitors in parts of the region (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, E. Pacific introductions).
