Porcupinefish spotted in Grenada

Porcupinefish, belonging to the family Diodontidae, are among the most intriguing creatures of the sea. With their ability to inflate into a ball and their body covered in sharp spines, they are a marvel of nature’s design for defense. These fish are not just about their spikes and puff; they play a significant role in the marine food web, preying on hard-shelled invertebrates like snails and crustaceans, thus maintaining the balance within their ecosystem.

Porcupinefish inhabit a variety of marine environments but show a preference for the coral reefs and rocky bottoms that abound in Grenada’s waters.
