All of the images in the underwater gallery below were captured off the coast of St. Vincent, part of the island nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean. While the country spans a chain of islands, it’s the waters surrounding St. Vincent itself that have earned the nickname “Critter Capital of the Caribbean”—a reputation built on its incredible diversity of macro marine life.
From sandy slopes to coral-covered reefs, St. Vincent’s underwater world is a paradise for photographers and divers who take their time to look closely. Calm conditions and clear tropical water reveal a colorful ecosystem filled with sponges, small reef fish, and countless camouflaged invertebrates waiting to be found.
Lying between St. Lucia and Grenada, St. Vincent’s nutrient-rich waters sustain vibrant coral and sponge communities close to shore.
There are so many tiny creatures living in seagrass, rubble and along the coral reefs.
