Playa del Carmen is among the best places in the world to dive with bull sharks. The warm water and good visibility allows divers to appreciate with great satisfaction the beauty and elegance of these awesome predators in Mexico between November and March.
Bull sharks can thrive in both saltwater and freshwater. They are able to travel great distances up rivers. They have been recorded traveling as far as Illinois through the Mississippi River. Although there have been few recorded freshwater human-shark interactions, they are probably responsible for the majority of near-shore shark attacks, including many bites attributed to other species.
Diving was guided by the team at Phantom Divers based out Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
I was also able to dive the cenotes with the team at Tank-Ha. Below are images from those dives.
Wow – that must have been a huge adrenaline rush, being down there in their territory, and so close!! 🦈

It’s definitely an intense experience. You really have to pay attention because they sometime sneak up behind you or whip you with their fins.

Whipped by a shark, imagine, lol. I noticed they twist and turn around really quickly – it’s very brave to put yourself down there – and just diving in the ocean In general – pls stay safe😊🌊

There was a feeder around. So, they are mostly interested in the food.
