Silver Reef Dive Resort Review – Dauin, Philippines
Resort & Accommodation
Nestled along the volcanic shores of Negros Island in the central Philippines, Dauin is known for black-sand macro diving—where rare critters hide in plain sight on the slopes. Just offshore, Apo Island adds a completely different look with coral walls, reef fish, and turtle-heavy dives.
Silver Reef Dive Resort sits right in the middle of this setup, with easy access to Dauin’s critter sites and straightforward logistics for Apo day trips. I spent over a week diving with their team, and the experience was consistently smooth from start to finish.
Built from repurposed shipping containers, the resort’s unique box concept delivers a one-of-a-kind stay. You’d never know you were sleeping in a container—each room is spacious, thoughtfully designed, and equipped to meet the needs of today’s dive traveler, offering above-average comfort and functionality.
The on-site restaurant serves a mix of local Filipino dishes and Western favorites, making it easy to find something you’ll love before and after a day of diving. Silver Reef also operates a full-service bakery, which churns out an impressive lineup of fresh breads, pastries, and other indulgent treats daily.

Dive Operation & Facilities
The dive shop here is exceptionally well-laid out. As a photographer, I really appreciated the dedicated camera room and the ample space for gear storage. They also have classroom facilities on-site for training. A nice touch is the choice between two pools—one freshwater and one saltwater—which worked great for both skill-drills and just winding down after a day of diving.
Silver Reef offers a great variety of diving. Their two banka boats are well-equipped and comfortable, even for the longer trek to Apo Island. Shore diving is equally impressive; the house reef is convenient, and renting a DPV (scooter) allows you to explore much further. A highlight was the shore diving excursions where they transport you by trike—it’s a fun, local way to get around that felt both adventurous and well-organized.

Diving & Marine Life
Diving in Dauin offers a truly world-class experience for macro enthusiasts. Silver Reef’s house reef is a paradise for critter lovers, home to an impressive variety of rare and fascinating species. Using a DPV (scooter) opens up even more exploring potential, letting you reach untouched coral patches bursting with color and life.
Beyond the signature muck dives, Silver Reef’s comfortable banka boats make effortless runs to Apo Island—an underwater gem filled with vibrant hard coral gardens, swirling schools of jacks, and graceful turtles. The bankas also venture to coastal sites inaccessible from shore, with boats heading out three to five times daily depending on the number of guests.
Whether you’re scanning volcanic slopes for frogfish and nudibranchs or drifting over pristine reefs, Dauin’s marine life offers endless opportunities for underwater photographers and divers alike.
